  Jesus died on a stake?

  you've got to love the watchtower.

  they must think that the general population has no bible available to it.

  while scrolling through a list of their beliefs on the official site, there was one that really caught my eye because of its sheer ludicrousness.

  The arguement the Society uses in regards to Jehovah not allowing his Son to die on the pagan-sex symbol cross is really baseless. They fail to realize that this was Satans moment-the bruising of the heal as some would call it. It only makes sense that Satan would want the most paganistic symbols attached to Jesus' death. I asked my mom about this and she was speechless. She hates it when I do that.

  If You Weren't A Witness, What Would You Be Today?

  many of us are or were witnesses because we were born into the religion.

  others became witnesses because they really thought it was the truth.

  so many wish that they never had a jehovah's witness come to their door or their parents' door.

  I probably would still be Catholic. I don't know if I would have put much emphasis on religion if my mom hadn't converted when I was 6. We didn't go to church much until the "change". I do know my career would be different. I was a fairly gifted athlete(football and basketball)and most of my friends at school could not understand why I didn't play competively. I don't know if I would've made as a pro but I probably would've pursued coaching.

  Link Between Obesity, Premature Death

  as a kid growing up in the jw world it always bothered me that the wts placed so little emphasis on obesity when it sought to place so much control on other aspects of the life of the rank-in-file.

  personally, i have no use for smoking, but i always thought that being overweight was at least as "bad" as smoking for ones health and i never understood why they ignored (and left in place fat elders) obesity while dfing smokers.

  it seemed hypocritical to me; still does.

  I have recently found my self wondering the same thing. My mom has battled her weight much of the last 25 years reaching a max of around 300lbs. My sister struggles with the same problem. I believe there are medical conditions that contribute to obesity so blanket judgement could never be possible but i also believe there are lazy,self indulgent people who don't care what they put in their bodies. My mom and sister both spent years drinking soda,eating chips and dip,cheese and crackers,pizza,Mc Donalds and so on and doing so to extreme without ever attempting to exercise. Considering the damage this behavior does to ones body this in my opinion could be classified as "defiling the flesh" or at the least a lack of self control. I don't believe these persons should be difellowshipped as i believe we all have character flaws or "demons" in our life that we would be better off overcoming but struggle to do so. The society probably will never go down that road though as lawsuits galore would abound but it does seem to be a double standard.

  Were your JW parents spirtually weak or strong?

  i was a 3rd generation witness on both sides of the family.

  even my great-grandomthers were considered witnesses, but i don't know if they were baptized.

  my parents however were always considered weak and still are even though my mom has become more involved & for longer periods of time in the last 15 yrs.

  I would have to consider my parents foamers. They love the "truth" and have shunned me for the most part the last 18 years. My mom had me enrolled in the TMS at 6. We never missed meetings unless someone was sick, prepared for most meetings beforehand, did field service on saturday,everyother sunday. They also did the FS thing on holidays,vacations and CO visits. I visited Bethel at 16 as well as auxiliary pioneered. They REALLY wanted me to grow up and be an elder or something of that nature. My dad was a MS for a time but stepped down after my mom felt he needed to work on being spiritually stronger at home. My mom is the one who turned me in to the elders for smoking. Haircuts had to be just so and one time my mom took clothes i bought to the elders to see if they were "appropiate." I could keep going but it makes me sick to talk about.

  How long were you baptized until you left?

  i'm interested to find out how long each of you were baptized until you decided to leave?.

  i was baptized december, 1989 and left six years later.. if only i didn't get baptized in the first place, then i could tell my family how wonderful the holidays were!

  Mom became witness in 1974-75 when i was 6. I was baptized in summer of 1984 at 16 and disfellowshipped in fall of 1985. If i had it all over to do again i would have never taken the plunge but i was to young to have a clue as to what i was doing.

  i need someones advice on dating a jw when im not a believer.

  i've just recently met him, lets call him chad, and he was the most amazing person ive ever met.

  he was easy to talk to and funny, sweet, gorgeous.

  Stef Before you judge him one way or the other be frank and ask him these questions: How long have you been associated with JW's? Are you baptized? Do you believe it is the true religion? If we were to embark on a serios relationship would you make love to me or would we have to marry first? Ask him all the questions you have asked us and let him know that you have no interest in converting if that's what he has in mind. The reason I say this is that I was once an 18 year old male who was raised as a witness but quite honestly never wanted to convert anyone and didn't have a problem with sex if the circumstances were right. This young man could be a religious foamer or a good guy without any religious intentions at all but to find out you will have to talk to him openly and honestly then make a descision based on that. I will say be careful and tread lightly but don't stereotype and be real.

  (in all honesty, i didn't try real hard nor did i put forth alot of time into my readings).

  i'm in the process of reading "crisis of conscience" for the second time trying to gather up any missed points from the first reading and came across this observation.

  of all the governing body members mentioned i don't think there was one that wasn't "white".

  this strikes me as odd.

Of all the governing body members mentioned I don't think there was one that wasn't "white". This strikes me as odd. I would think that God would want his modern day mouthpiece to be as diverse ethnically and culturely as the people that they represent. From all the names mentioned and their backgrounds there was not one asian,spanish,latino,african,indian and so on listed as a member of the GB. Just a bunch of old white dudes. If I'm wrong please let me know and does this seem odd to anyone else. I thought God was colorblind but he picked all white dudes to lead everyone. Hmmmmm! Somethings not right here.

  Utopian---------I love Rush! 2112 is in my top ten of all time favorite albums. A few observations. KEYCHAINS! The Society is now giving out keychains. I've been disfellowshipped for 17 years and am out of the loop as to what the organization does and says now except for the tidbits my loyal mother gives me when she tries to get me to return. How low can you go? Keychains. Quite sad really. As far as the vehicles being provided to the CO's I ask myself one question. Would Jesus drive a Buick with leather,CD ect.?Did Paul ride the countryside on the finest stallions provided by the congregation?Would he then sell the horse for profit?Man,the more I learn the more I wonder how people can be see so blind,myself included.
